Every 10 years, the federal government conducts a census to determine the populations total of cities, counties, the state, and nation. It is critical that maximum participation is achieved to ensure that we are properly representatives at various levels of government.
Census population counts are used to determine Congressional representation, Legislative representation, and funding allocations from the federal government. If we are under counted, we are missing out on opportunities to bring federal funds back into our local communities to support infrastructure, education, and other projects.
As of now, Sultan’s response rate is 54.3% (compared to a Washington State response rate of 65.9% and a national response rate of 60.6%). By under counting Sultan residents, we are losing representation and potential funding that will go to other communities based on population. These are your tax dollars that we can put to work back in your community.
