Flood Map Update – New Flood Maps Have Been Adopted – How does this affect me?
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) maintains the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) These maps determine which properties are in the floodplain and therefore subject to flood regulations. FEMA is required to update periodically based on the best available science and understanding of flood risks. Local jurisdictions are then required to adopt the updated maps.
On June 11, 2020 the City Council adopted the new FIRM maps which we use to determine what properties are subject to flood regulations. As a result, some properties that were in the Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA) are now removed from them and some people who were not in a flood zone could be in a SFHA area now. The new maps are available on our website. If you have any question about how the flood regulations will affect your property, please feel free to contact us.
