About the Award
This award is only given to 1 in 3 of the treatment plants statewide. Of the 300 wastewater treatment plants statewide, the City of Sultan was one of 109 that achieved full compliance with our National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The team has earned this award several times in the past, but this year marks the third consecutive award. This is an outstanding achievement.
The water that leaves your residence or business and flows through the sewer system is treated at our Wastewater Treatment Facility. The team at the plant understands the importance of constant monitoring and diligent treatment of that water. This award means that Sultan’s treated wastewater, referred to as effluent, has consistently met the quality standards required for release into the Skykomish River, which is cleaner than the surrounding river water.
