Welcome to The City of Sultan! I'm Mayor Carolyn Eslick.

The City of Sultan is located at the confluence of the Skykomish and Sultan Rivers, slightly north and east of Seattle. Named after the local Indian chief, Sultan was founded before 1900. Since the chief's name was difficult to pronounce in the native dialect, the new arrivals pronounced it "Sultan", and it stuck.

Our community development leaders along with the City Council and Planning Board work continuously to maintain and extend responsible growth, development, and a premium lifestyle for the benefit of everyone.

The City of Sultan fully encourages business and commerce as well as residential growth. We invite you to visit the award-winning Sultan Visitors Center on Main Street or online, home of the Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce. whose mission is to promote local businesses, both established and new. Meetings are held monthly.

Quality of Life

Sultan is the gateway to the Skykomish River Valley, with all its extraordinary beauty, diversity and recreational pursuits at your fingertips. The Cascade Mountains provide a spectacular backdrop. The area holds a colorful history that seems so close, you can almost reach out and touch it. And here you'll find one the top places in the country for steelhead fishing.

The Sultan School District currently serves about 2,000 students, K through 12. They offer a variety of options to meet your needs in four public schools, an alternative school, and parent partnership program. Private schools are also available.

In July, you can attend our festival, the Sultan Shindig. Along with entertainment, food and fun, one of the highlights is a Pacific Northwest Logger's Competition testing speed, agility and skill... And you can experience some of the thrill yourself by attending one of our Lumberjack Skills Classes for beginners. A truly unique experience!

Economic Development

Economic Development is an important aspect of any growing, self-sustaining community. Sultan embraces it with open arms, offering both suburban and highway oriented opportunities. Located on Highway 2, seventeen miles east of Everett, Washington, Sultan is the home to several prominent companies. These include:

	Werner Paddle, which manufactures and wholesales a premier brand of kayak paddles sold worldwide, and Romac Industries, a manufacturer of underground water facilities.
	The Sultan facility of Romac is the Foundry Service Division that melts iron for components.
	Proud to be one of the largest producers in the country, Sky River Mead makes a high quality honey wine that is locally produced and sold worldwide, shipping to outlets throughout the United States and Europe.

Sultan also enjoys having a business park, both new and historic retail areas, all the usual conveniences and amenities, and several new, exciting commercial projects on the drawing board. In addition, we are a terrific place for the application of cottage industry businesses.
